When the Bouvard company opened its doors in 1999 in Bourg-en-Bresse, it began by creating a delicious ganache-filled chocolate infused with chicory and a crispy praline covered in chocolate and decorated with a chicken footprint, as a symbol of our beautiful region of Bresse. Today, Maison Bouvard is an unmissable establishment of Bourg-en-Bresse. Pastries, bakeries, chocolate shops and even an ice-cream parlour, welcome to the ultimate destination for sweet treats.
Chocolaterie Monet is another iconic establishment of Bourg-en-Bresse that first opened its doors in 1906. The master chocolatier is very much attached to his roots and his products reflect the gastronomy and heritage of Bresse. That’s what led him to create the ‘Bresse Bleu’, a chocolate hazelnut praline, sprinkled with nougat and covered in blue chocolate, inspired by the blue cheese with the same name. For food lovers and fans of heritage sites, you might want to try the ‘Tuile de Brou’, inspired by the shape of the tiles on Bourg-en-Bresse’s most famous monument. It is a thin tuile made from 64% dark chocolate, sprinkled with cocoa beans and grilled almonds. What a treat!
Finally, the speciality from La Chocolatière, the ‘Bisou de Bourg’ (pronounced Bork), is a chocolate in the shape of lips that comes in various flavours. This chocolate is a perfect illustration of the romantic feel in our beautiful town, Bourg-en-Bresse. It is the ideal gift.
