Welcome to Bourg-en-Bresse

You might already have an idea of what to expect from your visit to Bourg-en-Bresse, maybe memories from a previous visit… Look a little deeper this time, you won’t regret it. Heritage, gastronomy, events, these are just some of the keywords that define the DNA and originality of our town.

When Mother Nature most definitely comes first

Bourg-en-Bresse may be a modestly sized town, but there is nothing small about its attractions. As its name suggests, Bourg-en-Bresse blends perfectly into the surrounding countryside, especially Bresse plain and the characteristic natural and architectural heritage. Mother Nature surrounds the town centre and if you look closely, you’ll see that she has even been beautifully preserved within the town’s walls.

Finally, Bourg-en-Bresse is lucky to be on the edge of the Revermont mountains and the Ain Gorges too, providing direct access to outdoor activities.

Delicious delights on every street corner

The town centre is very pleasant and lively. The streets are lined with countless shops, some of them under the arches of ancient boutiques. Some of them are absolutely unmissable. A 1900s style chocolate shop or a vintage barber’s shop. If you’re a fan of fine foods, you’re in the right place. There are restaurants everywhere. From the traditional brasserie to local street food or signature cuisine, there really is something for everyone here.

History is all around

A town made for wandering, tasting and also visiting. History can be seen all around the town, either in discreet details or opulent-looking buildings.  In the ancient districts, you’ll see evidence of several different eras. The tall, white church of Notre-Dame is always watching over the town. History here began at the dawn of the 16th century and is intertwined with the history of the church of Brou, a majestic monument that stands proudly around a twenty-minute walk from here.  The town has nothing to envy from bigger towns nearby, as for a town of this size, it boasts a wide range of festive and cultural activities, and sporting events.

We’re sure you’ll agree, it would be a shame to pass by without a visit.
