While Melchior Broederlam initiated the Flanders School, three great names laid the foundations of Flemish art in the first decades of the 15th century: Jan Van Eyck, Robert Campin and Rogier van Der Weyden.
Using appropriate and beautiful forms, these artists expressed their thoughts, faith and love, but also their admiring amazement at the universe, which they were learning to discover and transpose into their works. Goossen van Der Weyden, author of the Dymphne polyptych, was a worthy successor.
A lecture by Cyril Devès, PhD in Art History.
As part of the exhibition Fous de Dymphne, étonnantes histoires d'une peinture flamande, presented from April 5 to June 22, 2025.
