  • The botanical name of the saffron crocus is Crocus Sativus. Purple flower with yellow stamens and pistil dividing into 3 bright red stigmas. Reverse flowering plant, the Crocus Sativus shows its stigmas in the fall. It takes 150 to 200 flowers to obtain 1 g of dry saffron. After drying, the stigmas lose 80% of their weight. The virtues of saffron : antidepressant, antispasmodic, anti pain, it is also considered as an aphrodisiac.
